SUMMARY

A young boy named Sosuke rescues a goldfish named Ponyo, and they embark on a fantastic journey of friendship and discovery before Ponyo's father, a powerful sorcerer, forces her to return to her home in the sea. But Ponyo's desire to be human upsets the delicate balance of nature and triggers a gigantic storm. is there a 1080p version for THORA? or should i go for niizk version since they have 1080p too... but if i am not wrong normally THORA's video has the better video encode, please shed some light on this thks :D

From a comparison thread elsewhere:

Look at the dark sky especially. To my eyes, it seems niizk, as usual, retains more noise, which I prefer. THORA's seems smoother.

Yeah, I know the comparison screenshots are not the best, but digging out THORA's version (and transferring niizk's to my home PC) is less than enjoyable, so they'll have to do.



Anyway, video quality is slightly better for niizk. So is audio quality. And the file is (marginally) smaller.

Conclusion:
niizk's 1080p is preferable to THORA's for Ponyo.

I really prefer 1080p THORA version for this movie. But you prefer nizzk. So I'll try to download it from nyaa, even with slower speed. Because I'm not a fan of multi audio. There is no point for me to dowload a file with 5 extra language when I don't uderstand any of that language. I prefer the single audio. Just japanese is enough. Why sacrifice quality for extra audio. There is a better version that have less extra audio. I'll go for the quality, and I'm a Ghibli fans and I want to archieved all Ghibli Movies in the best quallity rips.

Anyway, I'll keep this 720p version until I finished download the 1080p.

Nope. Just prefer the better quality. Actually I don't really care if it have more audio tracks. I just want the best encode. I never meant to offense anyone. I'm aware that not everyone is prefer Japanese audio. I just want to download it for myself. But I'll appreciate it if you'll upload the THORA version for me :D

The niizk version has higher quality according to pretty much every source I could find bar you. That was the point I was making. :P

Or to be more precise: The video quality is deemed as indistinguishable. Audio wise the Japanese audio track is of the same quality (it's highly unlikely that the source was real 24bit (there's a lot of fake 24bit BDs that just declare to have that bitdepth but only use 16bit) with the English audio track having higher quality in THORA's release. The difference won't be noticeable on anything but a high-end system, though (and even then for only a small fraction of the population).
That being said, THORA uses DTS as audio format which introduces a significant increase in filesize - making their release end up being actually larger than niizk's.
